Remove Google Desktop search from Firefox

Navigate to Firefox's 'searchplugins' folder. Usually this is:

C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\searchplugins

Delete the 'gdesktop.src' and 'gdesktop.png' files from the 'searchplugins' folder. You can use this method to remove other search engines as well. Just delete the associated .src and image files (.png or .gif). Changes will take effect after you restart Firefox.

Integrate Google Desktop search into Firefox manually

Sam at the Web Developer Blog provided the following solution

• Go to C:\Program Files\Google\Google Desktop Search
• Copy the GoogleDesktopMozilla.src and GoogleDesktopMozilla.png files
• Go to C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\searchplugins
• Paste the two files into this folder

Restart Firefox and Google Desktop will be one of the options in your search box.
